Former Magento executive Dene Schonknecht to grow business and manage agency partnerships in APAC
SINGAPORE — 12 February 2019 — BigCommerce, the leading SaaS ecommerce platform for fast-growing and established brands, today announced that Dene Schonknecht has joined the company as its first-ever director of Asia. With more than 20 years experience in the ecommerce industry, Schonknecht will lead growth for BigCommerce across the Asia Pacific region, including day-to-day management of the company’s newly-opened office in Singapore.
The announcement comes as BigCommerce continues to grow its presence in the Asia-Pacific region, bringing on new agency partners CLEARgo, MoniMedia and Kemana in January to join existing regional partners, including SILK Software and Lister Technologies. In his role, Schonknecht will focus on expanding BigCommerce’s network in the region through the acquisition of new customers to join the existing portfolio of brands like Isetan and Resmed, as well as developing partnerships with ecommerce designers, development agencies and technology providers.
“Dene brings with him extensive ecommerce platform experience and is the perfect person to launch our operations in Asia. His familiarity with the APAC market will be vital as we look to expand our regional footprint,” said Brent Bellm, CEO for BigCommerce. “We’re excited to have him on board to deliver the world’s best ecommerce platform to our customers and partners in Asia — particularly as the region becomes a focus of growth for us in 2019.”
Schonknecht joins BigCommerce from Magento, an Adobe Company, where he was most recently its APAC Director of Channel Sales, supporting the company’s business growth prior to and immediately following its acquisition by Adobe in early 2018. Previously, Schonknecht served as Director of Alliance and Channel partners at Oracle where he was responsible for strategy and execution of the Oracle Marketing Cloud SaaS portfolio. He has also held leadership positions within industry-leading brands HP, Microsoft and IPG Mediabrands.
“BigCommerce’s partner-centric, customer-first approach and open SaaS model make it the ideal choice for our merchants’ growth, and I’m excited to work with our partners to serve merchants throughout Asia and help accelerate their success,” said Schonknecht.
The Singapore office is BigCommerce’s sixth global location. Under Schonknecht’s direction, it anticipates expanding to support additional sales and marketing personnel over the course of 2019.
